Words of Encouragement: Life Is Hard but It’s Not about the Pain

For those of us who sometimes feel as if life is dishing out more than we can handle, it might be a good idea to take a trek through the book of Job.  There’s no denying it is a lofty book that causes us to ponder many things about God but we find such awesome treasures in the midst of the suffering that by the time we make it to the end, the journey has been well worth it.

After spending much time in prayer asking for the Father to open your eyes to the truth He has for you in this book, it might not hurt to read it from the New Living Translation as well. God’s intended meaning is still there but with language that is much more understandable to us.

We forget so easily that God is sovereign over all things.  We like His sovereignty over the good things but not so much over the bad things.  Job addresses this right up front but does not neglect to include praise with it. Job 1:21b, “The Lord gave me what I had, and the Lord has taken it away. Praise the name of the Lord.”  Being able to praise God when “bad” things happen that seem totally unjust can only be done by those who already have a close walk with Him.

Then Job enlightens us with some words that  we have all had in our minds at one time or another. Job 2:25, “What I always feared has happened to me. What I dreaded has come true.”  If we are honest, we will all admit that at times we wonder why our lives have been so blessed and with that comes the thought of when is the other shoe going to drop?! Job surmises in this verse that it’s finally happened to him.

These are but a few thoughts from Job and hopefully just enough to whet your appetite to read more.  Many of us know the outcome.  He ends up being more blessed than he was before trouble came his way.  But more than that, he came to know God in the midst of his pain.  He realized that even though he wished he could die because the pain was so great, God had different plans for him.

If you are going through a difficult time and feeling as if life is too much to endure, find encouragement in the book of Job as God reveals the truths He has there just for you!
